Do dogs understand death?

Well it is not a weird question but you seem to be humanising your dog. Their thought processes are on a more basic level than ours. I seem to remember reading somewhere that even the most intelligent dog is less intelligent than a 3 year old human. They will certainly know when someone is dead but i doubt if their thoughts go deeper than that. But at the end of the day, who truly knows.
