How do Britons feel about their Imperial legacy?

When all the empire building went on, much of peasant Britain was in a worse off state than in the colonies. Britain has blood on its hands, but find me a country that hasn't had its fair share of warfare. It's in human nature to divide and conquer, not a particular trait of the British pysche, Britain was just good at it.
