Do you think this could be considered an alcoholic?

ever since i can remember my dad has always drank beer. (btw,both his parents were alcoholics) he never really gets drunk (although once in a while,he does) but he has several beer every night;i'm not sure how many,maybe like 3-5. when he was younger he used to do a lot of coke and i know he has an addictive personality. he has told me before that he struggles to go a day without beer (but can if he really needs to) and he will get mad if he has to pick me up from work late because it cuts into his beer drinking time. he doesn't drink and drive but he'll maybe have 1 or 2 if he has to drive...do you think he would be considered a mild alcholic,or am i over-reacting?
