Is the user 'tooth975' there?

When you have a congenitally missing permanent tooth, it will usually NOT be a good idea to close the gap with braces because that will cause an imbalance in your dental arch, especially if the problem is only on one side. The space caused by the missing adult tooth should be maintained and filled in later after orthodontic treatment has been completed. Otherwise the teeth will not line up correctly. Even if the problem was on both sides of the mouth, closing the gap will make facial esthetics worse. The most commonly congenitally missing adult tooth in the mouth is the upper lateral incisors (either one or both). The lateral incisor is the one next to the large front tooth (central incisor).
