Question about hinged elbow braces?

I broke my left elbow a long time ago, and now it hurts all the time, which is expected. It also hyper-extends very badly (bows out) and I think this is what makes it sore all the time. Went to the Orthopedic about it, nothing they can do. I've tried elbow braces, just the kind you get at Wal-Mart. I was wondering if maybe a hinged elbow brace would help, something that's way stronger than a Mueller brace you get at Wal-Mart. When I mentioned this to the doc though, he didn't seem to like that idea. I just need some relief, ibuprofen and working it out everyday aren't helping any. Serious answers please. Thanks
